T.L.C – Torah-Leadership-Chesed
At BMA, we view community service as part of our mission as Jews to make the world a better place for all people. One of the core values and missions of our school is Character development. We emphasize the highest standard of derech eretz (personal conduct) and seek to instill in our students sensitivity towards others in all of their words and actions. We promote a deep sense of אחריות (responsibility) for ourselves, for each other, for the Jewish community, for Israel, America and for people around the world.
Community Service Hours are divided into three categories: Torah, Leadership, and Chesed. Known as TLC, our middle school students are encouraged to participate in opportunities in each of these areas. Consistent with the value of increasing in goodness and kindness, hours vary by grade level:
- 6th Grade: 12 hours
- 7th Grade: 16 hours
- 8th Grade: 20 hours
NEW: BMA has partnered with Young Israel of Hollywood to offer students opportunities for Torah & Chesed on Shabbat. Students who lead tefilah, read from the torah or share a dvar torah will be able to collect credits that are redeemable for 15 minutes of TLC hours. Please contact Rabbi Gavriel Grossman or Mr. Schenker for opportunity details.
