We are excited to announce the start of BMA’s Shinshinim Young Ambassadors Program, a program which brings recent high school graduates from Israel to our community. These individuals bring Israel into our lives through programs, activities, and lectures to students of all ages. Through this program we will get a glimpse into what it means to grow up in Israel by learning about youth movements, current events, Israeli music, how the Shinshinim’s friends and families celebrate the holidays, and much more. Most importantly, they will bring a level of Zionistic
ruach to our school!
When they return home to begin service with the Israel Defense Forces, Shinshinim carry a deeper understanding of global Jewish people-hood and what it means to be part of the Jewish community outside of Israel. Shinshinim (or Shin-Shin in the singular form) is a Hebrew acronym for Shnat Sherut, meaning “year of service.”
The Shinshinim will lead programming at BMA during the week and B’nei Akiva, B’nei Sephardim and Young Israel of Hollywood during Shabbat.
Would you like to host our Shinshinim?
We are seeking parent volunteers to host our Shinshinim in pairs of two for 3 months (or longer) at a time. You should have a separate room from members of your family, with two separate beds for the boys to sleep in. You will be responsible for providing them with dinner. If you are interested in hosting a family, please contact Leah Amar, Rav James Williams or Jeni Chokron.
