“What an awesome way to reconnect with friends after a long summer” said Rabbi Eli Zians, Director of Student Life at Brauser Maimonides Academy, as all 112 middle school students climbed the buses for a trip to the Pines Ice Arena.
The conversations between students and their teachers filled the air during the 20 minute bus ride, making it the ideal opportunity for students to connect with old and new classmates. Once we arrived at the arena, students went off to collect their skates, it was amazing to see students helping each other tie their skates; signs of Derech Eretz were everywhere.
If someone fell down, immediately, people were there to help them stand up. Everyone felt included- we were skating as one school. Teachers and students were not only skating together, but they were also having fun. Students were dashing across the ice on hockey skates, while others could be seen gracefully figure skating in the center of the rink.
Additionally, students who felt unsure on their skates quickly learned to feel confident as they skated arm in arm with their friends. The morning on ice was a morning well spent, and the BMA middle school students had a fun and exciting start to their new school year.
